Transport Facilities Available at Kerala

If you are planning for a visit to Kerala, then you have made the right decision. There are so many travel facilities at Kerala. Kerala is well connected by roads. There is both public as well as private transportation. The public transportation of the State includes buses and trains. Buses are run by Kerala State Road Transport Corporation. These are locally called as KSRTC buses. The busses commute daily on routes from 5 to 8. This is only the case of local buses that are running on short routes. You always have buses on the state highways round the clock.

There are buses by the private owners. The fare for KSRTC buses and private buses are the same. KSRTC has launched low floor buses that will give a comfortable ride. All these buses are air conditioned. There are also buses that are run by the private tours and travel companies. The travel fare might change a lot during these two if the buses are deluxe.If you have booked the transport or the tour company is itself arranging all these, then you just have to use those facilities. There are jeeps that carry at least 8 people. If you are looking for a short travel, you can go for auto rickshaws or cars. Auto rickshaw is a three wheeled vehicle that is used as a taxi. It can carry three people comfortably. Cars are also available from the taxi stand. It will be better if you catch a taxi from the railway or an airport because they run based on booking facility.

In the backwaters, travelling could be done using the boats from Kerala Transport department. Just like KSRTC buses, these boats are also controlled by the government. There are also other boats like speed boats and cruise boats. Cruise boats are a new venture of Kerala Government. You can see the banks of the lake using the cruise boat. Cochin is a port; ship facility is available at Cochin.

Kerala is connected through airways. Kozhikode, Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi. Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi are international airports. You can also have the helicopter facilities. But this would be expensive. You can reach Kerala directly at Cochin or Thiruvananthapuram international airports.
