There are different places in Thiruvananthapuram to visit. The most popular one is the renowned Kovalam beach. Thousands of tourists come to Kovalam beach to see lay down on the beach. Aaranmula Boat Race is a famous boat racing in Kerala. The boats used for race are not mechanized one. They are all using the boats which are moved with a row. This is also one of the cultural events of Trivandrum. Aaranmula Boat Race is held in the Aaranmula village. This even takes place in August/September. Vanchipattu songs are songs that are sung when the rowers row the boats.

Varkala is a famous tourist attraction of the Trivandrum. There are many sea side resorts in Varkala. High cliffs can be seen along the sea side. Varkala beach has been appreciated by the Discovery Channel. It is in the “Top Ten Beaches in the World”. The beach got its position due to favorable climate and the beautiful sand.

Koyikkal palace is yet another place of visit. It is located 18 km away from Trivandrum. Department of Archaeology has taken the responsibility of the place and have converted to a museum. The museum contains various items that are centuries old. So of the archeological items go back to 15^th century.

Neyyar Dam is also lies in Trivandrum District. The dam is 32 Km away from Trivandrum city. Dense jungle covers the vicinity of dam. There are different types of flora and fauna on both sides of the dam. A crocodile farm is present near the dam. The reason for setting up the crocodile farm is for increasing the number of crocodiles and for saving crocodiles.

Shri Padmanabhaswamy temple is also a major building in Trivandrum. This temple was in news recently because of the enormous wealth that was found. Gold weighing tons were discovered from underground chambers. These might worth thousands of billions. There are also number of sculptures that can be found on the Shri Padmanabhaswamy temple.
