Kerala Tourist Department is going to implement a great plan. The tourists who visit to Kerala can have backwater cruise on a seaplane. The seaplane will take off from the backwaters and reach enclaves like Wayanad and Munnar. The backwaters in Kozhikode and Alappuzha will be also covered.
This project will help to increase tourists to a great extend who are not looking out for travelling in Kerala by road and rail. It will be taking more time to travel via rail and road. In a span of week, it is more close to impossible for a tourist to see all the beautiful destinations right from north to south of Kerala. The sea planes will resolve this problem.
Seaplanes take off and land on water. In countries like Canada, Sri Lanka and Maldives, eight to 12-seater seaplanes are used to carry tourists. These countries have lot of water bodies. Jetties and small airstrips will be constructed along various destinations across Kerala by the Kerala State Infrastructure Development Corporation. This project will be also developed by public-private partnership. The project is estimated to cost Rupees 80-crore. A project report is being made by SIDC along with Kerala Tourism Development Corporation.
Due to the tree stumps submerged under water and thickly wooded areas near to the water bodies, there might be issues while landing. So, these factors need to be considered while using the seaplanes as transportation.
The safeties of the seaplanes are prime concern as the tourists need to be kept safe right from take off to landing. So the air strips and jetties need to be created for landing and takeoff of the seaplanes. Due to the long coastline, it is ideal for using seaplanes for travel and Kerala Tourism Department is planning to make this project to work as soon as possible.
